OUR TEACHER SAIDDistance Learning Is A Golden Chance
On the 14th of March, the Ministry of Education announced that students will no longer be attending school and that distance learning will take effect instead. An overwhelming rush of nervousness and unease came over me, simply because I knew nothing about distance learning. It was a new concept to me. A concept that I was not prepared for.
The first question that popped into my head was, “How can I prepare lessons that students will understand being away from class?” I knew it was a challenge. A challenge to make the lesson simple, understandable, and engaging. Like soldiers, we rolled up our sleeves and got immediately to work. We were like a beehive working all together, learning from one another and teaching each other.
Little did I know, distance learning was a blessing in disguise. I fell in love with making videos knowing I’d be teaching my kids in the comfort and safety of their own homes. I imagine each one of them with their smiles, questions and physical gestures, whilst I prepare my lesson.
As a teacher and professional, Long Distance learning gave me the opportunity to focus on being as creative as I can be when delivering the information, keeping in mind that some of my kids will have to understand the lesson by themselves without the help of their caretakers.
Distance learning truly is a golden opportunity. I’ve discovered that I can handle this new learning management system, and for the sake of teaching my students, I will do what it takes. Through this journey, I have also discovered that my kids are more responsible and loyal, than I had known. They make sure they complete their tasks with precision and in a timely manner, for the sake of pleasing me, their teacher.
Distance learning has ironically brought us closer as a class community. It revealed that when there is a will, there is a way. When there is a will of teaching and learning, there is a way through Distance Learning.
